Welcome to this week’s WWW Wednesday post, a meme hosted by Sam over at Taking on a World of Words. Please go and have a look at everyone else is reading and make sure you post your own WWW in the comments so I can have a look.
The premise of the post is quite simple – answer the three Ws:
- What are you currently reading?
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
What are you currently reading?
I am currently around halfway through The Sister by Louise Jenson, which I would say is alright so far. My main issue is that it feels as if it’s written by a student who has been encouraged to use as many adjectives as humanly possible, often when they’re not necessary. I think what I’m trying to say, is that it is very basic in style. That being said, I have just finished I am the Messenger (more on that in a moment) so anything will falter in comparison. I knew I’d be disappointed in whatever I read next. It’s also going slowly because I’m spending more time watching the Olympics than reading. (I normally hate sport, but I absolutely love the Olympics, and Team GB are doing so well!!)
The story itself has me intrigued though. I like the way we don’t really know what is happening. We know that Charlie is dead (no spoilers, it’s in the first chapter), but we don’t know how or why. Small snippets of information are leaked out bit by bit, and I really like this approach.
What did you recently finish reading?
I just spent two long weeks devouring I am the Messenger by Markus Zusak, which is why I’ve been MIA for a while. It was absolutely wonderful. I cried happy tears, which is a first for me when reading a book; it’s just so beautiful and heartwarming. The narrative is simply stunning, nobody could ever beat this man for his genius use of words. Read my slightly more coherent review here!
What do you think you’ll read next?
I never end up sticking to this, and I think The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah has been on here for several weeks, so maybe I’ll actually read it this time. If not, it’ll probably be After You by Jojo Moyes, or The Girls by Lisa Jewell. Or maybe something completely different!
I am glad that you enjoyed reading The Messenger that much. Markus Zusak does set the bar very high for other writers:-) I hope that you will like The Sister though. It is one of my best psychological thrillers for this year although I can’t remember much about the writing style. Enjoy your next reads.Happy reading:-)

Have to admit I’ve been getting distracted by the Olympics over the last couple of weeks too. I usually just watch certain events but Team GB seem to be storming everything so it’s completely addictive 🙂

I haven’t heard of any of these, but the cover for The Sister is beautiful! I might have to check it out just for that alone ^-^

I’ll definitely have to read I Am the Messenger now. I’ll just prepare myself for more tears before I do 😉
And I keep seeing the Sister popping around, which sounds like an intriguing read I’d like to discover for myself. Hope you enjoy it.
Happy Reading 🙂

I have The Sister waiting on my Kindle to read. I really like the author and I’m a bit scared to read it in case I don’t like it!
I don’t think I can bring myself to read After You. I like where she left the story at the end of Me Before You… but I might give in and read it one day.

Did you like the ending for I Am the Messenger? It wasn’t what I was expecting and found myself a little disappointed. Happy reading and thanks for participating in WWW Wednesday!

My initial reaction was pure confusion, but after I’d had a bit of time to think about it, I liked it. Definitely not what I was expecting though!
